Drag to zoom

The fastest way to zoom into a stretch of traffic is to select it directly on the chart. Press the mouse button anywhere on the visitors chart, drag horizontally across the period you care about, and release. The selection becomes your date range: the chart, the KPIs, and every panel below follow.

How it works

  • The selection snaps to whole periods. On a daily chart you select whole days, on a weekly chart whole weeks, on a monthly chart whole months. The highlighted area and the range you get always agree.
  • A live label shows what you are selecting while you drag: the exact dates and how long the span is. No guessing, no off-by-one days.
  • Release to commit. The dashboard switches to the selected range and picks a sensible granularity for it, exactly as if you had entered the same dates in the date picker.
  • Selecting a single day, week, or month does the same thing as clicking it: it drills into that period.
  • Changed your mind mid-drag? Press Esc before releasing and nothing happens.

Getting back out

The zoomed range is written to the page URL, so your browser's back button returns you to the view you came from. The date picker and the command palette work as usual if you want to jump somewhere else entirely.

Drag to zoom also pairs with keyboard stepping: zoom into one week by dragging, then use the arrow keys to step through the neighboring weeks window by window.

Good to know

  • Drag to zoom is available on day, week, and month charts. Realtime and hourly views (Today, Yesterday, Last 24 hours, and minute granularity) do not offer it, because committed ranges are always whole days.
  • Plain clicks are untouched: clicking a point still drills into that day, and annotations still open and create exactly as before. A drag only starts once the cursor actually moves.
  • Because the range lands in the URL, a shared link to a zoomed view opens on the same range for whoever receives it.
